I am delighted to reveal the cover of the Italian version of Laura’s Handmade Life.
The design team at Newton Compton, my Italian publishers, got me on board with the cover  design after seeing my stitched letters here on this website.

Taglia, Cuci, Ama (cut, sew, love)
Published in Italy on 11 October 2012.

Click on this link and scroll down to see the movie-style trailer for the book, complete with Vintage music.

Is Julia Roberts reading this? Would she be up for playing the role of Laura Lovegrove, my textile heroine? Does anyone have any other suggestions for the part of Laura, or any of the other characters?

My zip is too long; can I shorten it? are answered in a clear, easy to follow language and include an illustration alongside each answer. I’m sure I could (and will!) have saved a lot of time, error and phone calls to my mother-in-law if I had

News
To see Caroline Hogg, senior editor at Little, Brown demonstrate how to make brooches, just like Laura go to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ImvGUoTsgao

Amanda's  novel, Laura's Handmade Life, published by Little, Brown is in book stores now.
When life unravels, start stitching...
Amanda feels this beautiful cover will appeal to lovers of art, craft and textiles (especially the Vintage inspired!). Laura's story, although fictional, is interwoven with textile tales past and present; from small scale and intricately stitched rants from the workhouse, make-do-and-mend in the former East Germany to artist Tracey Emin's larger scale patchwork rants. Vintage textile designers' work, such as Ascher scarves and Lucienne Day prints pop into the story, as do references to larger scale works of fabric, such as yurts and installations by Christo and Jean-Claude.

Bergh Apton Sculpture Trail 2011

Picture

Amanda is 'dressing' the village hall as part of the Bergh Apton Sculpture Trail, May 2011. She will be drawing upon Norwich's past and present textile links with Indian textiles, as part of the trail's Journey theme. She is hoping for a sumptuous display of colour, texture and pattern using  brilliant hues of maypole and Indian ribbons, and displaying one of Amanda's (and  Norwich's) favourite textile patterns - Paisley.

Dressing the Hall begins...an artwork in progress

Picture
'Dressing the Hall' is a colourful, shimmering wall of ribbons which pays homage to the notion of 'portable architecture' and travellers' tales. The artwork explores the Norwich-India textile link, Medieval inspired banners, and the writings and artwork of personal journeys of local artists, writers and friends. If you look closely at the ribbons there are some very diverse travellers' tales, including: a fire walk,  composting, a bicycle ride, a mathematical and a musical journey. Visitors to the trail will be able to add their own travellers' tales and complete the installation over the following days Sat 21st & Sun 22nd May, Sat 28th & Sun 29 May and Sat 4 & Sun 5th June.http://www.berghapton.org.uk/index.php/sculpturetrail

Norwich Dragon Festival 2011

Picture
The Norfolk Museum Service asked Amanda to develop an Art and Creative Writing session for the festival. The brief also had the exciting addition of creating a fairy tale which featured Phosphor the dragon, a weather vane which proudly looks out over the city of Ghent.
Now the storyline is complete Amanda is thinking that it would make a lovely illustrated 'world tales' style book. Read a short extract from Dragon Rider (working title) here.

...he sniffed the icy air. The wind wailed harder and harder, almost like a maiden's voice calling him. Did someone need his help? - after all he was the protector of  Ghent. Phosphor's golden wings twitched. He stretched them out and before he knew it, a little unsteady at first, he lifted himself high over the city...
